My problem with Atheism
My main problem with Atheists is that they are so certain that there isn't anything out there. I don't understand how someone merely human can make such declarative statements about the universe. We can't even get past the moon, prevent dying, create life, or any of the sort that nature has obviously ruled for so long, yet we think we gave absolute knowledge about the supernatural and theistic properties of the world? At least Agnostics admit that there is no way of knowing these things, admit that the human mind isn't infallible in its reasoning. So there is no empirical evidence of Gods or entities or supreme beings. Ok, have these Atheists ever condsidered the fact that what's observable to us isn't the only reality out there. I just don't understand how when there is so much in the world that people don't know yet, but we at least try to know, we can be so sure that things don't exist outside of the physical world.

I'm acknowledging the fact that there are different forms of atheism and not all of them necessarily deny anything supernatural. And maybe I have the wrong idea about Atheism, but the whole concept of claiming knowledge about the unknown seems just as naive to me as claiming you know there isn't life on other planets.

That's why I'm agnostic. One of my first problems with Christianity was, how do they KNOW? My problem with atheism was that as well.
I figure if there is a higher power, it won't be mad that I didn't arbitrarily pick a religion, when there is no way to really know for sure.
And if the Christian god does exist, and sends me to a place to be tortured for the rest of my life FOR THAT--- then he's a dick.

But if you apply this to atheism, do you apply this to every religion that claims to know as well?

Are you agnostic?

Now that you mention I guess that would apply to all religions who claim to know whats up. I think I just hold more over the heads of Atheists because I prefer to think that there is something greater than the physical in the universe. I guess rationally I'm an Agnostic, but I lean more to believing that there is something more, but thats based on personal hopes more than actual belief.

Well, I think I lean more to believing there is something more as well. I think that... there is a shallow interpretation, i.e. Christianity, which attributes purely human thoughts and concepts to something as huge as existance. On the other hand, science also tries to explain existance. I'm not sure they can go this far, I believe they can explain life and things that deal with a logical realm.
But no one can really explain how the fuck there is existance and not simply nothingness. But then again, even nothingness is something. WHY DOES ANYTHING exist? Why is there outer space? Why is there a universe? How do things simply exist?
These questions are WAY beyond our realm of thinking. Or at least mine. Maybe I'm dumb. But actually thinking about fucking existance- not ours- but of anything. it blows me away, and makes me crazy.
This is why I think there is an explanation, and we can NEVER reach it. Maybe we're not meant to.

I feel like you're saying that Atheists are ignorant.

this is why i'm agnostic as well. it's nice to believe there's something more out there, but i'd rather spend my time making the most of my life as an independent individual - live well and not assume something either way.

i read a letter to the editor in my school newspaper from someone who believed that we couldn't have morals without religion. i think i showed some moral restraint by not punching that person in the face, so it clearly isn't true.

i don't really have a problem with someone deciding to believe in God or deciding that it's totally impossible that there is a God or higher power or something out there, it's when those people are so rigid in that belief that they can't respect someone else's thoughts on the matter.

and i agree with xghostorchidx - if us agnostics are wrong and god decides to punish us for not being christian - he is a dick.
